shark

it would be good if all photos could be approved automatically in shark in dolphin it doesnt happen and theres no way to make it automatic

custom pack solutions

It’d be great if we could get a private license for templates and a full pack service for installation, hosting, domain, maintenance and update, so the business runs in “automatic pilot”.

HTML code in Dolphin and Orca

Hello!

I love Dolphin with Ray and Orca. It would be great if BoonEx can:

· Allow to insert HTML code in the Dolphin profiles and Orca forum, to put videos of youtube, for example.

· Add a visit counter in the Dolphin profiles.

Good bye!

Shark Cool:)

hey finally guys , i.ve been waiting for this script to be released i always wanted to try it from your discription, can’t wait to check it out ;)

Beginners

Update: I guess  I should apologise with the proper host (I finanly found an awsome one) Dolphin install is a snap! But I must add the forum for support and all are hard to use many unansewered questions…………………I have been back and forth with my host over the last few mths trying to get Dolphin properly installed. And have been back and forth with other community apps. I think a good “list of of server requirements” that a newbie could ask his host to see if Dolphin will be compatable. You have to understand there are people trying to use this product with little knowledge and funds, if that had either either they would code their own or pay sombody to do it.

Barracuda installation issues

Althoug I think it is great to have some of these installation scripts, sometimes thry do pose a problem. Barracuda is one of those. When I installed it onto a server of my client, the script would show page one, then when posting it back onto itself, show it again, but without formatting and action buttons, stuck in other words. I retried various times without joy.

Unfortunately, this is not a new thing. Maybe it is better to set up a validation first page in the install scripts, to allow users to interactively determine if their configuration is ok, not leave it up to them to fgure out why an installation has failed.

Ray Chat and having Moderators

I am (hopefully soon) launching a free dating site… I have most of the Dolphin 5.4 components working!!! YAY!!

But seeing as I have a ray chatroom and I do need SOME sleep from time to time and fresh air never hurt anyone… I can’t be in the live chatroom to monitor conversation at all time 24/7. IF there is a way to set moderators to the chat room… I haven’t been able to figure it out, but I feel that this feature is essential to a chat room as certain people in a live chatroom setting can and will get annoying to other users, causing a loss of members, or even the downfall of a site. Even as admin, I cannot LOG into the room and watch chat through admin pannel… my only admin panel option is ban a member, which means I have to enter the room as a user… then flip to admin panel and ban whoever is being disorderly.

So my suggestion would be to set up profiles to a “moderator status” to help manage the site.

Support Issues

I loved Barracuda directory. its one of best i has used. But i cant help it by noticing that Support Issues isnt very good. when i got few problems with it.  i tried contact  boonex people. Never got help or respond or anything from them..

Ill be glad if they’re can able improve their Customer Support very more better.

So i can able solve it and able have full functionable directory without any problems..

Groups

Hi, I think Dolphin is superb, but it could be more so with a facility where members can start their own group with other members. The group would have a profile page like a member, and its own blog, orca area and uploads of audio / video etc. The main difference between a group profile and an individual  member is a public “sign” that this is a group, and a list of subscribed members.

So, for a site that is dedicated to people who write/make/act in short films, a group would consist of members who work together, and the group might host the videos made by that group. It could suit any community whose members collaborate or are specially interested in an aspect of the community’s wider subject matter.

Directions for Website Administrators

What I think would be helpfull is a manual for the administrator…I paid someone to install my Dolphin dating website www.777Singles.com and we have gone back and forth for over a month now…Things aren’t working like they should and I don’t know how to fix them…I don’t know of anyone elses website to compare so I just keep e-mailing the installer and asking him to fix my website…My last fix that I am waiting on is on the home page when you try the quick search for singles all it does is take you to another detailed search for singles…Kind of redundant…I want to set up affiliates but I have no idea how to finish that process either? I would have probably added Ray by now if the website worked but it doesn’t and spending more money on a website that I have no directions for is not a good investment…Maybe you allready have an owners manual and I just don’t know it…I hope so!        NorthPhoenix

New Idea

Hi,

I think that your script is great, but it seems like just about every script out there is geared more towards matchmaking. I myself have been looking for a script that could be used for automotive enthusiest like myself. After doing a little research there are quite a number of people looking for the same thing. Finding a scrit that would create a car community like www.cardomain.com or www.hondashowoff.com would be great.

hi

Your offer is great with customer blogs.Your script software is firstclass but i mean ray+dolphin is for me expensive i can offer you lease your software,if you lease this i can pay monthly without hosting 40 usd ray and dsolphin this is my idea for you

How about adding a fantastic ad module

I think a proper stategic and completely adjustable in terms of layout google adsense integration in dolphin/ray would be of great use.

Hi, I would love to be involved with Shark.

Hi, I would love to be involved with Shark. A terrific flexible, comprehensive admin module would be great for us newbies. Please look at this link to see a possible GUI that would be great to use as a model for drag and drop capability. You can download the trial for free. Go to this site and click the 21 day free trial link down the page. I think you will like it. Even consider using it for project management. http://www.theskyconsultinggroup.com/

Let me know what you think. It would nice to drag and drop different widgets into a schema. Thanks, Rick

Yellow Cork and Boonex

YellowCork.com plans on using the boonex produts in the very near future.  Our plans are to build a frindly enviroment for kids and adults of all ages. We have many ideas of our own that we will share with boonex when the time comes.

Shark - Reporting Module, What to Include?

Please, share your suggestion about what kind site stats should be displayed by Reporting Module in Shark admin. The most obvious are:

Registered Users

filters:
- all profile fields items, like age, gender, location, etc;
- email providers used, like Gmail/Yahoo/AOL for better newsletter targeting
- activity - login sessions count, searches, pageviews, sent/received messages
- reported - reported/blocked/blacklisted profiles or letters
- now online or online within specified period of time
- by account status - paused/active/suspended/else

Stored Media

filters:
- images count, sizes, total volume now and within specified period
- video files count, sizes, total volume now and within specified period
- audio files count, sizes, total volume now and within specified period

Extra Modules Stats

filters:
- events count / subscribers / activity
- groups count / members / activity
- blogs count / posts / comments

OK, this is a start. Please suggest your items and/or extend the proposed list.

Letter with a suggestion for Shark

Got a letter today with quite sensible suggestion and as agreed with the author I post a part of it here:

First here is the drawing and a little of what I think would best serve the needs of what I define as communities. Communities have many things in common, while this is true, the topics however is what separates one from the other. What would be of great interest to one individual, may be painfully boring to another.

If different interest is the basis of how communities are formed and grow, then there should be a structure which allows these groups to stay within their space and not have to go to a central area to use a blackboard for instance. The blackboard, chalk, and projector are all contained within each respective room. Because not all rooms are the same, they may not need the same tools.

To wisely think and to act on what will be lasting and good policy is the real talent in product development. Community building is not easy, content providers rules but the infrastructure is very key to comfort and productivity.

The idea around the construction of distinct rooms, each with their own moderator, policies and addons is, I think, the best design. The “one add-ons fits all” may be convenient from a coders viewpoint, but not for progressive thinking behind developing or planning communities. In the non virtual world, we accommodate the need of self containing room or suites all the time. Making it a requirement to have to use a central BBS for all the communities is liking asking someone to use the public restroom facilities while staying at a hotel. Oh, it is practical from the plumber’s perspective alright.

Here’s the discussed scheme:

Community Software Scheme

Personally, I think that “rooms” can be implemented as a module - not as the core structure of the script. Like, say “groups” in MySpace or Facebook. What do you think?

Looking for opinions and suggestions for Shark

We are now very focused on Shark development. The challenge is to create reliable, scalable, enterprise-level community software with PERFECTLY flexible structure, which will empower web-masters to set-up community sites that really work. BoonEx Dolphin is very popular and mature, but Shark re-caps all our experience and uses more advanced technologies from the very beginning.

We want Shark to be the software that works the way YOU want, seamlessly. Now is the time when your opinion can make effect on the final result. We will be giving our beta versions for those who participate and help, and will provide FREE final version licenses for active collaborators. Shark is due in a few months. The core engine is ready (Poseidon 1.1) - we use PHP5, XML, XSLT, AJAX and MySQL Cluster. Most classes are ready. We can build pages/functions really fast now, but still need your opinion to be 100% sure about how exactly should Shark work by default.

For now, if you want to collaborate, please comment in this blog.

PNG vs GIF. This time PNG wins.

While optimizing new 4ppl logo I tried gif and png. With same 16-colors only setting gif compressed the image to 2.5KB, while png-8 made it 1.9KB. Not a huge saving, but still is a saving :) - good for super-popular site where this image should load faster than fast.

Shark - Day 3 - World Cities Database

OK, when join form is ready we have to add cities database with dynamic reload (AJAX), but what a great pain in… this DB is. Did you ever imagine - over 1.5 MILLION cities!!!??? It’s huge. Thank you AJAX for letting us handle this smoothly though.
