New Idea

Hi,

I think that your script is great, but it seems like just about every script out there is geared more towards matchmaking. I myself have been looking for a script that could be used for automotive enthusiest like myself. After doing a little research there are quite a number of people looking for the same thing. Finding a scrit that would create a car community like www.cardomain.com or www.hondashowoff.com would be great.

UserPlane is probably a dirty word in the forum, but there are some things that could be learned from them. Can Dolphin be used as the frontend to both Ray and UserPlane, or any other platform for that matter? I would purchase Dolphine and pay a monthly service fee for Ray if it were hosted. The issue I have right now for my pilot project is that Ray requires a dedicated server, and my hosting provider won’t allow it in a shared hosting environment. I can’t cost-justify the additional expense for a share server in this testing/pilot phase. I need a playground to prove the business plan, and would certainly purchase the necessary modules should the test/pilot prove successful. UserPlane does this to a certain degree by offering the free hosted version, but the challenge is multiple sessions and managing athentication and payment.

It’s really configurable, so you should be able to accomplish what you need. I also want a customization for a community alumni script.

Maybe someone could outline the steps to do this, or if someone has already done it, tell us how.

I totally agree, and think some of the best lessons of online p2p social sites can be drawn from real life.

One thing _nobody_ else currently has is groups for friends. MySpace.com et al have friends, but there’s no way to seperate “co-workers” from “close friends” from “bowling buddies”. How we know these people somewhat defines how we interact with them.

So tools to help people find a tennis partner would be a proximity search where someone registers for a game module, and perhaps times avaialble, and shark already knows where this person lives - so it can pair you off by proximity and time and make the introduction.

For friends, perhaps just allow a few user-defined relationship types i.e. coworkers, fellow parents, etc. but don’t post that data… speaking as an american/US resident, socially here it would be sort of a faux pas to tell people wheree they stand, especially if they don’t match - so labels are for your own use, to say, invite all your personal friends to a party but not coworkers.

Obviously labels overlap, so it would have to be checkbox - some coworkers are personal friends and tennis players.

just a thought, something I like.

I agree. I am wanting to create a community based around a particular interest. There is a matchmaking element, but the characteristics sought / offered are not those on a dating site. At the moment some of the fields can be deleted, but some of the personal dating type fields are compulsory. It would be nice if ALL the user profile fields could be deleted or re-specified.

Dolphin emerged from a dating script - aeDating. Admittedly it is still very much geared towards dating functionality, but in v6. this will shift a lot. I mean all dating functions will remain, but we will add groups and more - community-oriented layouts. Also, with help of extras that you can buy/download at Expertzzz Dolphin can be used for the thing you ask for.

We are considering hosted service as an option, however we don’t have immediate plans to offer it, since we have little to no experience with such service as of now.

Very interesting. I feel that it can be accomplished with the use of “virtual labels” or tags. You just have to provide proper interface for users to handle them. Certain activity could automatically add a specified “tag” to a person. Like registration from, as you suggested, “sports” module can auto-label this person with “sports” word. Does this play with your idea?

Very correct - we will try to make Shark as flexible as possible in terms of profile fields manipulation.
