Ray 3 On The Way. First Screencast.

Ok, we are about to launch it. Techs demoed the Ray Base to me today and now you can see a draft screencast of how it’s going to work.

As you may see in Ray 3 you can download 3-rd party widgets (we’ll publish a free API for widget developers) and seamlessly activate them via Ray Admin. Integration is also made easy via special “widget holders”, which you can position anywhere on your site and then put available widgets into those “holders”.

Thus Ray Base is a “platform” for various Flash applications that you may add to your community site. It provides unified administration and management interface, which itself can be updated/upgraded easily. This is start of something potentially very popular and unique. Our major goal is to make IAIC (installation/administration/integration/customization) as hassle-free as possible and the ver 3 is a major forward in this direction.

Once we have manuals and licensing issues settled (should take longer than 2-3 days) I will send free evaluation copies for members of this blog and other interested individuals.

You may view the screencast here - Ray Base Demo Screencast (4.4Mb). In this demo we show Ray Base integrated with Dolphin. Enjoy and share your comments.

Looks incredible. If it runs as well as the Demo makes it seem, then the product will be more than welcome. This is truly exciting!

Demo is in fact WORSE than the product really is. It’s a fast-baked draft screencast - the actual thing feels and works way more exciting.

Thank you for fast feedback TomG!

That’s refreshing! I cant think of how many times i viewed a demo, was impressed with its performance, only to be let down horribly by the final product as i was expected to run it after purchase. I dont think most webmasters mind paying a fair fee if the product delivers as promised. I think that is why vBulletin sells as well as it does…it is recognized as a quality product, and even with the number of pirate copies out there, the number of copies sold is impressive in a market flooded with free offerings.

Cant wait to see for myself what this offers!

    Hello Andrey,

Yes, the progress for ray chat, has been impressed, and fast, you were realized, from the demo, even if the demo, from a sense of confusion, justly in few second, they is not able, to appraise to full; the changes that have been done; in every case, he is understood that the product, and very professional……….

    Hi Everyone,

It looks good. I just have a couple of questions…

    1. I could never get dolphin installed on my server even though I tried for about 3 days. The software kept saying it couldn’t connect to my database using the password “No”. I checked the configuration and my real password was listed but no matter what I tried I couldn’t get the software to get it and recognize it. So I was wondering if that has been fixed? Or if my next question might explain why.

    2. Since I could never get dolphin installed on my site I figured if the demo worked I’d rent a different server. So I tried the demo and it didn’t work. I contacted boonex 2 or three times and each time I was told that it works fine in firefox and that I should download firefox. So my second question is… if I use boonex products will I have to expect all of my visitors to download and use firefox? Because if that’s the case there’s just no way that everyone’s visitors are going to agree to do that. I checked my google analytics and 83% of my visitors use Internet Explorer. So it would be safe to say that 83% of all internet users use Internet Explorer. And if 83% of the people on the internet won’t be able to use my site, then that SEVERELY limits the dolphin software and the available widgets, even to the point of rendering them totally useless.

So can anyone please tell me, will the new ray and the old dolphin work with ALL browsers or just firefox?

    Thanks,
    Vernon

    Hello Vernon,

something must have been mixed up, since Dolphin is always tested under AT LEAST IE6, IE7 and FireFox before release. And IE is always a preference. If you experience any bugs or problems, try to as specific question at Expertzzz.com and support or other members should be able to help.

Ray would work under any browser with compatible Flash Player installed (now it requires Flash Player 8 and up).

We also plan to make Dolphin more compatible with other browsers, including Opera and Safari.

    Hi Andrey..

it was my pleasure to see the screencast and your blog here. It seems that it will be really a good one. But since im working as engineer and often get screencast of new products that look really incredible but than the real thing is much less than expected. That dont mean Ray 3 isnt as good as the screencast shows up… but i will write and explain my thoughts and wishes about Ray 3 when i did explore all the function, see and feel how it works ;O)
I also focus more on the user side even its important to set up the functions and widgets… You will set up this things ones and maybe change it once in a while… but the user interface is the one what will be used daily by many many members and thats the thing that should work excelent…

Anyways im happy to see that screencast to get an idea of your new product and im looking forward to explore Ray 3 to give my ideas and thoughts about it…

    thx,

Looks good, but I’ll be interested to see how easy, or difficult, it is to integrate with my community software since I’m not using Dolphin (I like Dolphin, but I started with another script and have put way too much time and money into the other one to start over). I was able to integrate latest version of Ray without too much hassle, so I’m hoping the future versions won’t be a hassle.

Just the same, it looks like you’re going in the right direction. Bravo!

Looks nice though I could see only the admin part of Ray. I have got an idea of the product.Would love to see the product from the User’s point of view.Looking forward to the evaluation copy to explore further and give my ideas and feedback. Thanks.

I’m going to start my first Dolphin site and I’m under impresion. It’s easy, even for me! And working … not yet (I have a problem with Orca integration).

It’s a great pleasure to hear positive feedback on the little bit if info we provided. We really hope to deliver a quality product and since Ray 3 is in many ways a new way to build software for us, we will speed up its improvement in development process at the early stages to adapt everything to exactly what you need. Version 3.0 is likely to be pretty fresh. but after you feedback we will upgrade it really soon.
