Expected Release Dates. Update.

Shark 2 Beta

Still no definite info about Shark release, but launch of 4ppl is delayed. It was expected to be launched today, but looks like we’ll not make it. 1st of May is THE date now. We are a little slowed down by “Settings” page, which handles users preferences for mail reception, and it takes quite a while to make it universal enough to be a part of Shark. Next, we still have to update mobile module, which will also take a couple of days. Hence 1st of May.

Ray 3 Beta

Almost done. 99% likely that the beta will be sent to those eligible as soon as tomorrow.

Dolphin 6 Beta + Orca 1.2 Beta

Still in works and will take about 7-10 days + testing/fixing. Groups are ready. We’re also building-in a new default template - more community-oriented, and adding one more community-style template. This also takes some time. Thus we’re targeting 8th of May with this couple.

I’m looking forward to becoming a tester Andrey! I have only just opened my dolphin site which is filling up fast. It isn’t ideal but will have to do for now as it’s the best there is. I am hoping shark will be the long term solution!

I must admit I have not been with Boonex long and am still learning here. So I am not completely aware of what shark will be other than a powerful, modular, enterprise solution for dating sites and p2p networking communities - is that it in a nut shell?

    Features
One of the most important ones I can think of right now is user friendliness. Having just opened my dolphin powered site with ray pro integrated it has reminded me how stupid web users can be! I am getting quite a few comments from users saying how complicated the site is to use. My reply to them is that it’s not possible to provide a simple to use site that has so many advanced features. It is a reminder though that what seems simple and logical to us, can seem very complicated to the average web user. If they get confused in the first few seconds of arriving at a site, we’ve lost them, and any revenue they would have generated.

I am assuming we will be able to easily migrate our users and profiles, and content from dolphin to shark? Am I right?

    What about server requirements?

You may find quite a lot of info in this blog already - we’re discussing Shark heavily. In a nutshell, yes, it is a modular, scalable, customizable and supposedly “powerful” software platform for community sites.

    As for friendliness… Quote:

“It seems that perfection is reached not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.”

Very true and exactly our approach in Shark development. Shark will seem to be doing very little, but in fact will be very powerful. I am looking forward to showing you the 4ppl.com implementation next week.

Dolphin-to-Shark migration pack will be available from the day one.

Server requirements are yet to be defined, but for now look for a box with PHP5 (compiled with XSL) and MySQL 4.1. Should you be willing to run it with Ray, requirements will add up - see Ray description at BoonEx.com

    Hi Herve!

thank for the idea - not too difficult really. Dolphin 6 will be well integrated with Ray 3 for sure - we are testing this heavily now and will issue a few pre-release versions for even better testing.

    Cheers,
    Andrey
