I think that even with version 6.0 Dolphin’s profile registration section is still lagging. Since the registration screen is typically the first interaction a user will have with a site, I think this first experience should be simply awesome.
Unfortunately, as a site owner, customizing the registration process for a user is very limiting. In fact, there are still a large number of fields that I can’t delete or remove completely. Furthermore, toggling the registration process into different steps is very cumbersome to run. Certain fields have character limits that cannot be changed either.
Is there any way, you can spend some time to try and improve the registration experience for potential users to a Dolphin powered site? In other words, can we strive to keep this registration section, to require the least amount of fields for an account to be create. Once a person has registered for an account and confirmed the account, have a section on the site that displays a profile meter showing how complete a user’s profile is. This not only shows the user that the profile still has additional information that needs to be filled but also takes the burden off the site administrator to ensuring that members have complete profiles.

Make Meaning Or Die
I love this idea. The registration procedure is way too long as it is.
Yes, I think so too. I think it should let the user know that it is not totally complete but yet not harass the member to finish it. As not everyone wants to enter their state, city, etc. (if on a social-networking site) so they shouldn’t be nagged but possibly just have a little icon saying that the completion is not complete. Possibly make it so the user can just click something that would tell us that “The user has completed what they feel comfortable posting on the internet.”
Wonderfull idea !!!!!!!!!!! A PROFILE METER IS A MUST !!!
Thank you. yes, good idea indeed. profile fields is yet another very important part of Dolphin which we are working on and I hope to be able to have you all (ok, most of you) happy with a new system.
I think too that this is cool idea. However you must remember about one thing: some fields should be fullfilled during registration process i some cases (because we need them before user starts to participate). I mean not only obvious username, password and e-mail but in some cases other stuff like address.
The conclusion I think is simple. Admin should be able to decide which fields must be filled even if minimum amount is reached.
