I would really like to see the features outlined in the following posts to help improve safety and security:
- http://www.boonex.org/2007/07/06/couple-of-points/ (mine)
- http://www.boonex.org/2007/06/30/another-small-idea/ (mine)
- http://www.boonex.org/2007/06/30/reported-profiles-appear-in-adminmod-panels/ (Mine)
- http://www.boonex.org/2007/07/15/warning-system/ (Tyler)
- An option making profiles created by users under a certain age should be automatically private and only viewable by accepted friends.
- Also may be a Mass Private Messaging option for admin, rather than sending to users emails, you send a PM to their profile inbox.
- An account perm ban or temporary freezing account, where the user gets a message with the reason and length of the ban. The screen could go dark and a message comes up on their attempt to login. Their profile also becomes unavailable.
I think this is so important.
Edit - I also think you should put in an email and ip filter. You should be able to ban persistent trouble makers from using and signing up to the site.
Some members may hate what I’m about to say, but I think there should be an option to read messages. Which is vital if you are going to keep a safe community.

Make Meaning Or Die
If Im honest, I was so close to buying phpFoX, but when I looked at the current, and future features of Dolphin, I thought Dolphin actually looked 10x as good. So thanks Andrey and the team.
There are a couple of features that phpFoX has that Dolphin needs, at least in my opinion.
>> Member Login - I think admin and mods need to be able to enter a members username in a page on the admin panel and be able to instantly login as if they were that member.
>> Session logs - Admin and moderators can check the logs of a member, to see where they have been at any date. Admin can decide how long they want logs to be kept for.
>> Profile logs - Admin and moderators can see who has viewed who’s profile. May help to track people who you believe shouldn’t be on your site.
More soon
lc when you have see the code of phpfox then you dont buy! php fox is old not good coded
@ -D-, I agree and feel that Dolphin is 10x better than phpFoX any day.
Yea, Boonex is 10X Better. I believe all of this should be implemented.
I know I’m probably gonna get shunned for this but I think privacy tools should be included in 6.0. To make it so your provile, totally private, viewable by friends, or public. As this should be a core feature as for social-networking sites.
Teens ages 13 aren’t gonna want or be able to have their profile viewed to the public but yet viewed by only friends. This should be included in 6.0 if at all possible.
Thankyou Tyler! My site’s minimum age will be 13, a full year younger than that of MySpace, and there is no way we can have kids of 13 having their profiles public, and viewable to anyone. And also, the profile logs come in handy here, say for instance you have a 13 year old called Timmy and a 75 year old called Bob. If Bob is looking at Timmy’s profile and his pictures several times a day, that’s not normal is it? So we would be able to pick up on this and look into it further.
Other people might think it’s taking it a bit far, but I think it’s necessary.
Yes, as if sites allow anyone under 13 then it is illegal.
I defintely think this should be in place for 6.0 as it is a very major feature.
Also LC91 you may need it for police reports if for some reason the police would like to see some logs. In the rare case that would ever happen.
But I think some good moderation tools like those listed could become very helpful and handy.
Also maybe include a moderator/administrator (sorta like RSS feed) of what is done to the users account that only the owner who is logged in can see and administrators and moderators.. Like…
“7/28/2007 | 8:31 AM | Profile Approved by {Moderator or Administrator Name}
7/30/2007 | 3:24 PM | Warned for PM Spamming by {Moderator or Administrator Name”
Something like that would be nice for the user to see and also for administrators and moderators use.
Yah Tyler, sounds great! I think these would really help.
I’m back and I will pick up some of these modules if they are not taken up by others. I had already developed some of this for my private sites, the person who took over after I left, thoroughly messed up the code and database.
As soon as we have a release with the new menu system (my site has been down for weeks, but I don’t want to do this work twice) I’ll begin coding.
(probably very few here knew me, I have not done development for the software since it was ae. Before the site went down in May we had over 100K users. Don’t know how many will still be there when the site comes back online)
Another feature I will be adding(one of the few that I had released for ae) I don’t know if this was incorporated in the base code, but it was licensed to go with a module pack.
* Enhanced ‘private’. When you approve someone access to your private area, rather than sending them the private password, it flags the approved profile internally as ‘granted’. This prevents people from sharing the private password and allows members to disable the ability to see private in the future if it becomes an issue.
okay i see this can be actually really good to have

We need to have a system where we can know what ip is doing what and if a person tries to hack us like what happened to stardreamer the guy would get caught … is there anyways we can add to this ???
Yea I like the Enhanced Private thing.
Truely knowing the IP of your hacker isn’t going to help you much. Not like you can report it to the police or anything. Plus most of the time the IPs are dynamic so it would be impossible to figure out who it was.
IPs are dynamic
————-
TYLER … thats not true if an ip is dynamic u can still get the provider of the dynamic ip and report the time and they are doomed … comon now if that was true then wed all reset our ips and nobody would get caught doing what ever … nice thinking that it works but in the hands of the FBI it doesnt go to far … they are able t ocatch anyone with any ip and if you think by changing your ip then your wrong sorry .. you can still be traced no matter what or where you travel on the internet and you can even be traced with a proxy server believe me ( i read on the internet this so i know my facts and no ip changer can stop you being traced bt the FBI or CIA )!!!!!!!!!!
IP is not the only thing that is published on the INTERNET also your mac address is traced to … good luck getting away now adays
ACTUALLY 4 things they have you traced on the internet …
IP / MAC ADDRESS / SERIAL OF COMPUTER / COMPUTER NAME
Unfortunately:
* The mac address is not available outside of the local network segment
* It EASILY modifiable without rebooting
* It does not provide you any information that can be used to track down a user
* You have to have a privileged application running on the computer to access the mac address or the Serial number.(maybe ray qualifies, but probably not. Flash does not inherently have access to this information.)
many cool suggestions in this post and comments. We will go through them and will add them to DevZone for further development. Not many will got o v6 though.
As for tracing members… from our experience there’s little you can do except for tracking IPs and set cookies. Other methods are on-the-edge and may turn your site into a malware depot.
