Ray Server Question

Before I try installing Ray 3b, I was wondering if the Ray Server that goes with it is compatible with Ray 2.3. I can only have one communications server going at one time and need to keep Ray 2.3 running for my members.

Another Ray suggestion

On some chat programs, when you double-click on a line of chat, it transfers that users username to your text entry box.

For example, double-clicking on this line of chat:

Ihaveareallylongname (2007/03/08 - 09:43): How is everyone doing?

would produce “Ihaveareallylongname,” in the text entry box. This makes it much faster to acknowledge someone in the room by starting the sentence with their username.

I’m not sure if  Flash limitations would prevent this feature, but I hope not because it’s one of the features on my old chat script that I really miss.

Ray Suggestions Part 2

Just chatted with some people in my chat room and got the following suggestions:

1. Emotes - Built in text macros launched by typing / before a code word. (e.g., /em)

2. Tie emoticons to smileys - When you type an emoticon like :) it displays the corresponding smiley.

3. Sound emotes - Like emotes, but launches a corresponding sound. (e.g., [kiss] creates a kissing sound). I just made up the idea of using brackets and I’m assuming there’s a common way to launch the sounds that people are already used to.

Hope this helps.

Suggestions for Ray

I’d like to start by saying that Ray 2.3 is a major improvement. I’ve had the fewest problems with it and I like the new features. However, there are a few suggestions that I’d like to make.

1. Age display -  Since couples are on my site, I need it to show, for example, “30m/28f y/o couple”. The problem is that Ray will only display integers for the age field. I’ve tried every workaround I can think of, but the problem appears to originate in the Flash Actionscript. I’d like to suggest to Boonex that they change the properties for age in Flash to variable characters. I don’t see any reason why integers are necessary since there aren’t any actual calculations being done in Flash.

2. Real chat logs - That is, the system gathers the chats for the day and either emails them in text format to the administrator or stores them somewhere for later retrieval.

3. Modifiable chat page - In older versions of Ray, you could modify the areas around the SWF window. I usually added chat tips and news below the chat window. Now when I try to do this, all I get are errors.

I’m looking forward to seeing what Ray 3 has to offer.
