Hello everybody,
This idea hopefully helps everybody or someone has a better way to promoting there sites even better. As you know its not easy getting people to you site these days, with facebook right around the corner its hard.. I would write the script myself but i’m sure one of you could do a better job then I.
Anyways, the basic idea is to adding an extra tab to the menu on top for example, tab name: promotion of the month and in it place the image of the item weather it be a hockey tickets, coffee mugs or an ipod to advertise and also have the script monitor new members joining the site. making the page nice and pretty with wheatever else.
Friend and i was thinking, promote the site by maybe promotiong a free ipod. To advertise the site and the free ipod placing ads in the local newspaper to get people to sign up.
mod ideas:
- display prev. winners with the item they got to win.
- display number of new members signed up to win the item.
- options to put local advertisments
- to fill the page, maybe new form entries relating to the promotion
- stats, like how many women, men and what city there from.
- maybe even an area on the page for members to leave short messages like the profile wall.
- little things to make the page exciting and filling.
anything to make the site interactive and fun for all users.

I can’t seem to change the text color. everytime i select the text color option it keeps displaying false.
noticed it in both IE (version: 7.0.5.5730.11 and in Firefox (version: 2.0.0.11).

Game like scrabulous is very popular on facebook and I’m sure you guys know this already. I know on expertzzz.com the games are available but there not user interactive games.. Scrabulous isn’t popular becuase of its a scrable game but its ability to play with other members and its simplisity and no complicated format.
Dolphin is awesom and I’m pretty happy with Dolphin most parts, minus the mods (transparent background worked only halfway lol) that I could never get work, but we need to make dolphin stand out from the basic community site. Every site pretty much has the forms the chat the groups but is there anyway to make it more interactive with other users.
Whats making facebook so popular, whats facebook has that dolphin doesn’t. For some reason Scrabulous alone seem to pull in people.
so… back to my original question, are there any games or is anyone working on an interactive game?

should the boonex ad be there?????

When setting up categories in ORCA you have the option set the forum public or private.
Public everyone can access. I tested the private and i’m not reall sure how it works or who has access to this forum.
Any ideas how private forum works?

The upgrade from 6.2 to 6.3 ran without a prblem.
I noticed 2 problems I thought patch 6.3 was to resolve:
1. Rate profile, users still can rate profiles without being logged in…
2. I notice in my classifed section, that the patch put everything back to default deleting or removing the classifieds categories I created. The posting i created before the upgrade still under my profile but not in the classified section.
go to www.netvillage.ca –> profile –> robin and you’ll see my classified posting and the fact its not in the classified section anymore.
I’m not sure what I had in my classified before the upgrade, is there a way to get back the classifed categories without restoring the old database?

This is about the appearence of profile comments. Haven’t really noticed it before but today as i was browsing through some of the profiles i noticed the actually count of days is next to the name/message which makes the community site look and feel as thou its not busy. if its a large community site it wont matter but if your starting out or a small site it might appear as slow and can be seen as unpopular site..
if you must have a time period displayed maybe have the whole date show rather then a day count because will the full date the gap between the message might look alittle ambugius.

There’s alot of message going back and forth regarding dolphin patch 3 & 4 and I a little confused to which patch to wrok with. Is patch 3 ready to be used or is it still being tested?
whats the difference between patch 3 and 4. one of the messgae said number of fixes have been put in place in patch 4 and followed by closures of tickets due to patch 4 fixes.
I have Dolphin6.2, is patch 3 ready to be used?

Parts of the main page are fragemented. This only happens in IE and not in FireFox.

happens weather i’m looking at the site form work or home, its always fragmented and have to refresh couple of times to get it back to normal.
tried deleteing the cache and the temp files and problem still remains.
Everybody else getting the samething or is it just me?

Not sure why, but the music upload stoped working again, frustrated.
been trying to get this to work ever since Dolphin 6 was released.
few days ago boonex fixed the upload but now its not working again.
did the samething it did before, reaches 100% upload then it displays the message upload file error?????
I noticed alot of people received this message. their has to be a common fix for music upload error message.
anyone still have the answer for this fix???

1. how do i verify weather my database is “utf8″ converted or not?
2. the option “Use hexadecimal for blog” isn’t available in phpmyadmin unless its worded differently. I posted a screenshot and can someone have alook and comment on weather i’m taking the right steps to converting my database.

I been with boonex for almost a year and have to day you out done yourself in Dolphin 6. I’m sure it wasn’t an easy task keeping to the time line and all the bitching in the blog but in either case you did a good job with Dolphin 6. Thank you.
Question
I know Dolphin is designed to work as a dating site and as a community site. I read alot of blogs regarding the profile fiels and still abit confused. Dating site and community site is dictated by the contact in the profile, if i give users access to enter height, weight, body type, etc the site wouldd go towards the dating site but my objective is to have a community site(facebook, myspace). if i liminate fiels like height, weight it would go more towards a social site and any one can join.
saw this in one of your posting:
“Some fields are critical for normal Dolphin operation and can’t be deleted now, we plan however to do this in the final release.”
Is there a way to hide lot of the fiels related to dating such as height, weight, body type, etc??
another example is, relationship fields.. social community only needs single or not singel.

question about creating a new TAB on the main page..
I created a new TAB and put in hello world to test.
When i clicked on the new Tab i created it overrides the current page to display the information. HOw can I create this Tab so that the contect i put in appear below the Tabs so that user still can click on home, vidoe, blog, etc… and not just override the current page to display hello world..

Placed a test classified for 5 days and it has expired.
1. As a user I don’t have access to deleting my own classified ad. No delete link available but Edit link is available. nothing found in the Edit link to delete the ad either.
2. as a Admin, i cant even see the classified ad to delete.
According to the home page states the classified ad is there but as aadmin I can’t see the classified.
As a admin, i can see the live classified ads and the link to delete a live ad is available.

I ran the patch 6.1 and it seem to be worked, my orca forum is working.
but i still cant access ray or upload music(upload error)
after installing the initial software dolphin 6 i did generate the key and registed some of the wedgets but for the past 2 weeks i havent been able to access ray. so i waited until the upgraded to 6.1 but problem still remains.
message i’m getting when i click on ray suite, “not installed”.
did a test uploade music and at the end of the upload it displayed “upload error file”
any ideas?

Is it possible to create a quick file/folder permision checker that we can run at anytime to confirm yes it is set correctly. Maybe a small php file, something like the screen in the initial install of dolphin that confirms file permissions.
Utility like this would eliminate lof of the confusion and help troubleshoot problems that much faster from both sides?
